Flatten to Image PDF — Privacy

Privacy model, limits, and safety notes for Flatten to Image PDF.

Flatten to Image PDF privacy model

This tool is classified as heavy workload and runs in On-device mode. Current status: ga (fully-functional).

What this does

  • Applies the selected transformation to the document or exported output.
  • Keeps processing local in browser when marked On-device.
  • Uses monthly local counters for usage quotas.

What this does not protect

  • It does not remove names or sensitive content visible in document text or images.
  • It does not guarantee legal anonymity or endpoint compromise protection.
  • For hybrid tools, privacy depends on explicit cloud opt-in when enabled.
  • Text becomes non-selectable. Recipients cannot copy-paste, search, or index the text. If they need searchable text, they would need to OCR the result.
  • Output file size is almost always larger than the original for text-heavy documents. A 500KB text PDF may become 3-5MB after flatten at 150 DPI.
  • 200-page cap exists because each page requires ~50-100MB of RAM for canvas rendering. For longer documents, split first and flatten sections.
  • Transparent elements and blend modes may render differently than in specialized PDF viewers. Always verify the output.

Safe workflow defaults

  • Verify output manually before sharing.
  • Use security guidance at /security for higher-risk scenarios.
  • Keep original and transformed files separated to avoid accidental leaks.
